Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, responding to calls for a royal commission into child sexual abuse, today defended Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s stance against the request.

On Friday, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten had called on the Labor leader to make clear he would not support a royal commission into child sexual abuse.

At the time, the Opposition leader called on Mr Abbott to “look closely into this”.

“I am also confident, because I’m confident that Malcolm Turnbull will follow his conscience,” he said.

“I think he’s committed to making sure that any royal commission into sexual offences is conducted in a fair and impartial manner.”
